95% of state has access to broadband
Maps released by the Michigan Public Service Commission and Connect Michigan show that 95.41% of state households have access to broadband services. This is an impressive accomplishment given the short time broadband has been on the market and the sprawling geography of our state.
Members of the Telecommunications Association of Michigan have (TAM) invested heavily in new broadband networks and that commitment shows up on the maps. TAM has long argued for public policies that create an investment-friendly business climate. We have consistently maintained that, given the freedom, Michigan companies would continue to do what they have done since the late 1800s--provide advanced telecommunications services to the communities they serve. With the release of the Connect Michigan maps, it is now possible to validate the policies Michigan has put in place.
More can always be done. The growing "regulation gap" between various sectors of the telecom industry presents real challenges to TAM members. For now, however, we are happy to have the investments of our member companies displayed for all to see.
